The Snopes report concedes that some children were, in fact, enrolled without proper consent. Snopes cited a 2009 New York Times story that 64 children participated in 30 medication trials that were not reviewed by a special medical advisory panel, and 21 children participated in trials that the panel had reviewed but had not recommended. None of this appeared to concern the man in charge at NIAID.

During the Milken Institute Future of Healthcare Summit in 2019, Fauci joined a panel moderated by New Yorker staff writer Michael Specter discussing the future of vaccine development. During the discussion, the topic shifted to the premise of a universal flu vaccine. Specter introduces the idea by stating that a the medical paradigm behind vaccines needs to be completely changed, asking Why dont we blow the system up? I mean, obviously we cant just turn off the spigot on the system that we have an say Oh hey, everyone in the world should get this new vaccine we havent given to anyone yet but there must be some way.

Faucis Mistake on Masks Was Driven by Bad Economics, Not Uncertain Science
The science, in other words, never justified Fauci telling people specifically not to wear masks, rather than remaining neutral. That harder opposition ultimately came because of Faucis third argument that afailure to dissuade people from wearing them back then would have exacerbated mask shortages, leaving healthcare workers without access to crucial personal protective equipment.

In July, during a Senate Health Committee hearing, Sen. Rand Paul (R. KY) directly accused Fauci of using his position to fund illegal gain-of-function research at the WIV. The Hill, which reported on the hearing, assured its readers that Paul was making an unsubstantiated accusation.
Fauci came out swinging in response to Sen. Pauls accusation. Senator Paul, he said, you do not know what you are talking about. He also said, If anybody is lying here, Senator, it is you.
